New York City II

Nach dem Zwischenstopp in Washington, D.C. waren vor der Konferenz natürlich noch ein paar Tage eingeplant, um New York zu genießen. Und obwohl wir beim letzten Besuch schon ein umfassendes Sightseeing-Programm absolviert hatten, gibt es in New York immer wieder etwas Neues zu entdecken.

After the stopover in Washington, D.C., a few more days were planned to enjoy New York before the conference. And although we had already completed a comprehensive sightseeing program during our last visit, there is always something new to discover in this fascinating city.

Gleich am ersten Tag machten wir uns dann auf den Weg zum One World Trade Center, dem höchsten Gebäude der USA. Von der Aussichtsplattform in der 103. Etage hat man einen grandiosen Blick auf Manhattan und trotz des weniger schönen Wetters konnten wir sogar weit bis nach Brooklyn oder New Jersey sehen. 

On the very first day we went to the One World Trade Center, the highest building in the US. From the observation deck on the 103rd floor, you have a beautiful view of Manhattan and despite the not so beautiful weather, we could even see as far as Brooklyn or New Jersey. 

Noch am gleichen Tag ging es dann zu Little Island (auf deutsch; Kleine Insel), einer kleinen künstlichen Insel am Westufer Manhattans im Hudson River. Hier kann man sich wunderbar erholen und eine kleine Auszeit von der lauten Stadt erhaschen. Außerdem hat man einen wundervollen Ausblick auf Lower Manhattan mit dem One World Trade Center.

On the same day we went to Little Island, a small artificial island on the west bank of Manhattan in the Hudson River. Here you can relax wonderfully and catch a little time out from the noisy city. You also have a wonderful view of Lower Manhattan including the One World Trade Center.

Leider hatten wir danach nicht mehr viele Gelegenheiten, die Stadt zu genießen, bevor der Trubel der Konferenz losging, aber dafür war im Anschluss noch Zeit für einen ausgiebigen Spaziergang auf der High Line bei allerschönstem Wetter. Die ehemalige Hochbahnstrecke für Güterzüge wurde ab 2009 zu einem Park umgebaut und zieht seit dem Himmel und Menschen an. Aber wer kann es ihnen verübeln, es ist wirklich schön dort.

Unfortunately, we did not have many more opportunities to enjoy the city before the hustle and bustle of the conference started, but after the conference there was still time for an extensive walk on the High Line in the most beautiful weather. Ever since the former elevated freight train line was converted into a park it has been attracting many people ever since. But who can blame them, it really is beautiful there.

Nach zwei wundervollen Wochen in New York und D.C. war es dann leider schon wieder Zeit Tschüss zu sagen, aber wir werden definitiv wiederkommen.

After two wonderful weeks in New York and D.C. it was time to say goodbye, but we will definitely be back.
